PDF Reader ("we", "the app") is built to be private by design. This policy explains what information the app does and does not collect when you use it. In short: your documents stay on your device, and you don't need an account to use the app.
1. Introduction
PDF Reader is a native iOS application for iPhone and iPad. All core features — reading, annotating, signing, scanning, OCR, merging, splitting, compressing, converting, redacting, and locking — run entirely on your device using Apple's built-in frameworks.
2. Your Documents
- The PDFs and scans you open or create are stored locally in the app's private storage on your device.
- We do not upload, read, transmit, or back up your documents to our servers — we don't operate document servers at all.
- Text recognition (OCR) and all editing are performed on-device. Nothing leaves your device unless you choose to share or export it.
- Files you place in iCloud Drive are handled by Apple under Apple's privacy terms, not by us.
3. Information We Collect
PDF Reader does not require you to create an account, and we do not collect names, email addresses, or the contents of your documents.
- App settings (theme, language, preferences) are stored locally on your device.
- Diagnostics: if you have opted in to sharing analytics with Apple at the system level, Apple may provide us anonymized, aggregated crash reports. This contains no document content and no personal identifiers we can trace back to you.
- Purchases: subscription status is managed by the App Store. We receive a signed receipt that confirms entitlement, not your payment details.
4. Device Permissions
PDF Reader requests permissions only when a feature needs them:
- Camera: to scan paper documents into PDF.
- Photo Library: to import images into a document or save exported files (optional).
- Face ID / Touch ID: to unlock documents you have locked. Biometric data never leaves the device and is handled by iOS.
- Notifications: to remind you before a free trial ends (optional).
You can review or revoke any of these permissions at any time in the iOS Settings app.
5. Subscriptions
Pro features are offered through auto-renewable subscriptions processed by the Apple App Store. We do not collect or store your payment card information — all billing is handled by Apple. See our Terms of Service for subscription details.
6. Storage & Security
Documents you lock are protected with a password using PBKDF2 key derivation; the password is never stored in plain text, and the verifier is kept in the iOS Keychain. Locking also raises the file's on-disk data protection level. Because processing is local, your data is never exposed in transit to us.
7. Data Sharing
We do not sell or share your personal data. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking networks. Content only leaves your device when you explicitly share, export, or print it using iOS share features.
8. Your Rights
- You control all of your documents directly on your device — delete them at any time.
- Deleting the app removes its local data from your device.
- To manage subscriptions, use your App Store account settings.

9. Children
PDF Reader is a general-purpose productivity app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
10. Policy Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Significant changes will be reflected here with a new "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app means you accept the updated policy.
